WebDrop is designed with privacy in mind. We do not collect, store, or transmit any personal information to external servers. Specifically:

  • No User Account Data: We do not require or collect usernames, email addresses, or any account information
  • No Analytics or Tracking: We do not use analytics services, tracking pixels, or any third-party monitoring tools
  • No Advertising: We do not display advertisements or use advertising networks
  • No Cloud Storage: Your files are never uploaded to our servers or any cloud service
  • No User Behavior Tracking: We do not track how you use the app

Information Processed Locally

The app processes the following information locally on your device:

  1. File Metadata: File names, sizes, and modification dates of files you choose to share
  2. Network Information: Your device’s local IP address to enable file sharing on your local network
  3. App Settings: Your preferences such as the shared directory path and keep-screen-on setting (stored locally using SharedPreferences)

All of this information remains on your device and is never transmitted to us or any third party.

How the App Works

WebDrop creates a local HTTP server on your device that allows other devices on the same Wi-Fi network to:

  • Browse files in your chosen directory
  • Download files from your device
  • Upload files to your device

Important: All file transfers occur directly between your device and other devices on your local network. No data passes through our servers or any third-party service.

Permissions

The app requires the following permissions:

Android Permissions

  • Internet Access (INTERNET): Required to create a local HTTP server for file sharing
  • Network State Access (ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE): Used to detect Wi-Fi connectivity
  • Wake Lock (WAKE_LOCK): Optional, used only if you enable the “Keep Screen On” feature
  • Storage Access: Required to read and write files in your chosen directory
    • On Android 10 and below: READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE, WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE
    • On Android 11+: Managed through Scoped Storage

These permissions are used solely for the app’s core functionality and not for data collection.

Data Security

Local Network Only

The app only operates on your local Wi-Fi network. The HTTP server is bound to your device’s local IP address and is not accessible from the internet.

No Authentication

Security Notice: The app does not currently implement authentication or encryption. Any device on the same Wi-Fi network can access your shared files. Please:

  • Only use the app on trusted Wi-Fi networks
  • Do not share sensitive or confidential files
  • Stop the server when not in use

Third-Party Services

WebDrop does not integrate with any third-party services, SDKs, or APIs that collect data.

Children’s Privacy

The app does not collect any information from anyone, including children under 13. The app is safe for users of all ages.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted in the app and on our distribution channels. The “Last Updated” date at the top of this policy will be revised accordingly.

Data Retention

Since we do not collect any data, there is no data retention. All app settings are stored locally on your device and can be cleared by uninstalling the app.

Your Rights

Since no personal data is collected or stored by us, there is no data to access, modify, or delete from our side. You have complete control over:

  • Files you choose to share (by selecting the shared directory)
  • App settings (stored locally on your device)
  • Network access (by starting/stopping the server)

You can remove all app data by uninstalling the application.
